How to grow cannabis indoors discreetly? 2020 Updated
If you’ve ever gone to a forum for advice on growing cannabis, you’ll know that there is no shortage of opinions on what you can do to become a better grower.
Learning new tips and training techniques give you an edge in growing and help you increase your yields. However, there is one thing that I consider to be the most important part of advancing your growing knowledge…
MINIMIZE SMELLS
Powerful cannabis genetics can produce wicked smells. And while you might love the whiff of a quality Skunk variety approaching harvest time, you’ll want to minimize the smell of your plants as much as possible if discretion is important to you. The best way to do this is ventilation.
In order to make sure your grow space has enough ventilation you need to calculate the length x width x height of your grow space, then multiply that number by 20 CFM (cubic feet per minute). This will tell you how much air exchange your grow environment needs in order to avoid arousing the suspicions of your neighbours.
If you’re investing in a solid ventilation system, this will help you minimize the dank smell of your grow op. Remember to keep temperatures in your grow environment below 25°C (76°F) to keep your carbon filters and other parts of your ventilation system working smoothly.
HIDE LIGHTS
Marijuana grow lights are one of the most important variables when growing cannabis. Without light, your plant will not grow, period. Indoor lighting setups have to mimic the energy produced by the sun, so they can be quite expensive, especially when growing multiple plants. But there are still ways you can save on these. One of the best options is to buy used lamps, they’ll do just fine. You’ll only need new bulbs. Lamps and reflectors can be found on eBay and similar sites, and will likely perform as well as newer models. To hide the lighting, you can use an indoor grow tent.
Know the Law
In the U.S., many states have their own laws on how marijuana is treated. Some states will send marijuana users to jail for years, some will give them counseling, others will just give a fine, and some do nothing at all.
However, it’s important to remember that marijuana is still illegal according to U.S. federal law, as well as the law of most countries. In fact, cannabis is still classified as ‘Schedule 1’ with the US federal government; Schedule 1 is the highest (worst) classification a drug can have, and cannabis shares the classification with hard drugs like Methamphetamine and Heroin. Although this classification is obviously motivated by reasons other than public safety, it’s important to remember that you can still be prosecuted and jailed just the same.
Growing weed indoors is highly satisfying. But closely controlling the amount of light, temperature, humidity, etc. is important! Plus, when cannabis is mature, the odor can get very strong. Happily, you don’t need to struggle with managing conditions in an ordinary room. The ideal solution is to get yourself an indoor grow tent. But what size to get and where to buy it can be a challenge, especially with so many choices available.
